Early Life and Education
- Hellyer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto in 1949.
- He received a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering from the Imperial College of Science and Technology in London.
- He also attended courses at the University of Western Ontario.
Career and Major Achievements
- Elected to the Canadian House of Commons in 1949.
- Served as Minister of National Defence (1963-1967) under Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson. During this time, he oversaw the unification of the Canadian Armed Forces.
